|The Romero family owns an older home on a small lake in Kentucky. They contacted us to help them achieve a more up to date kitchen that included an open floor plan for entertaining in the summertime. They wanted a professional style range top, a large built in refrigerator, wine storage and an island with seating that could double as a buffet area. They also wanted to keep the rustic feel of the home while incorporating their contemporary tastes.
To accomplish the wants of these clients, we removed the supporting wall between the kitchen and the living room. Once this wall was gone, the rustic fireplace became the focal point of the entire pubic space while also allowing the view of the lake to be visible from the once dark cramped kitchen. White cabinets on the perimeter along with open shelving that flanks the left and right of the metal hood lends to the new open and brighter feel of the space. The perimeter oven cabinet is pulled from the wall 3” to allow for the pantry entry pocket door to slide to the side of the oven and out of sight when not in use. The small bar refrigerator located closest to the living are is topped with floating shelves on a rustic wood plank wall that repeats the the dark color of the island along with the floating shelves of the stove wall.
In the end, the contemporary shaker style cabinets in glacier white, along with rustic touches of the dark shadow stained cabinets on the center island helped the Romero family achieve their dream kitchen. The Romero’s are so happy with their new kitchen and hope to have a great time this summer, and years to come entertaining with their family and friends.
